HCV MANAGEMENT RECOMMENDATION

HCV 1

  1. HCV 1.1;

 

  1. Carrying out patrolling at the border of the MBCA(Maliau Basin Conservation Area) buffer zone.

  2. Carrying the enhancing and maintenance towards the existing wildlife corridor.

  3. Ensuring that 50 m width of areas were set aside as a buffer zone to protected areas and class 1 forest reserve.

 

  1. HCV 1.2;

  1. Mark Retention Plant Species on the ground.

  2. Minimize the impact of logging near the sensitive area such as area near the Riparian area, Conservation Area, and Wildlife Corridor.

  3. Regular checking of the boundary of each steep area, conservation areas and riparian reserves and providing signage of each areas.

  4. Conduct floristic inventory.

  5. Conduct training and briefing to workers on the identification of RTE species.

  6. Providing signage of no fishing and no hunting to emphasize the policy of company which not tolerating poaching and fishing in the protected area.

  7. Ensuring that any opening of the forested land to be done gradually from the eastern part to the western part of the operation area to allow wildlife moves to the nearest protected areas.

  8. Creating awareness towards the importance of the protection of the fauna in the protected areas and carrying out enforcement regularly.

 

  1. HCV 1.3;

  1. Before operation being carried out, all endemic species need to be marked on the ground to ensure the species will not be disturbed.

  2. Field staff is required to enhance their plants or botanical knowledge to ensure they know which should or should not be harvested.

  3. Maintain and enhance the buffer zone.

  4. Record any incident of illegal hunting or poaching if any.

  1. Camera trapping and wildlife monitoring at compartment 1,2 and 14 to identify species that come to the salt licks.

  1. Carrying out scheduled patrolling in the boundaries to ensure no encroachment.

  2. To set aside 50 m buffer on the border of the protected areas.

  1. Demarcate the location of the protected area on the ground and in the map.

  2. Carrying out scheduled patrolling in the adjacent area to ensure no encroachment.

  5. Maintain the protected area by excluding the area from the logging activity.

 

 

HCV 4

  1. Maintaining and Enhancing the 250 m buffer zone of the Wildlife Corridor Area by regular checking on the boundary and signage.

  2. Ensure no encroachment by conducting scheduled patrolling.

  1. Set aside 30 m buffer on both sides of the river of Sg. Malibo and Sg. Kuamut.

  2. Demarcation to all of the riparian to avoid encroachment.

  3. Ensure all steep areas to be untouched and maintained with signage.

  4. Steep area must be replanted with indigenous tree species.

  1. Using the existing SOP to guide the staff in the event of forest fire.

  2. Implement scheduled duty rooster for monitoring of forest fires.

  3. To create awareness of forest fire prevention towards the worker.

HCV MANAGEMENT ACTION PLAN

 

Methodology of Maintaining and Enhancing the HCV area

 

HCV 1.1

 

  1. Carry out the scheduled monitoring or patrolling for the buffer zone at the border between Usahawan Borneo Greenwood and MBCA (MALIAU BASIN CONSERVATION AREA).

  2. Ensure that the demarcation in terms of signage  and boundary poles to be clear and visible to prevent any encroachment in the area.

 

 

HCV 1.2

 

  1. Mark retention plant, take one sample and take the coordinate. Conduct monitoring to ensure that the marked plant was not harvested or damaged.

  2. Ensuring that directional felling was implemented especially at the harvesting site adjacent or nearing to the protected area.

  3. Regular monitoring on the borders of every protected areas present in Usahawan Borneo Greenwood.

  4. Records any sighting of rarely seen flora and fauna in any areas.

  5. Conducting training to the staff to increase their knowledge on identifying the tree species to ensure the retention marked trees not to be logged or damaged.

  6. Ensure the protected areas were equipped with sufficient signage of no fishing and no hunting.

  7. Conduct briefing to workers to enhance or creating awareness towards the importance of preserving the biodiversity of flora and fauna in Usahawan Borneo Greenwood.

  8. Tightening the security control of the main gate to ensure no outsiders enter and conduct poaching and fishing in the area.

 

HCV 1.3

  1. Mark all Endemic species during the CPP preparation with r letter paint.

  2. Providing training or briefing to staff regarding the characteristics of prohibited trees or plants.

  3. Ensure that the boundary poles and each signage to be very visible to every workers.

  4. Any occurrence of encroachment should be recorded.

 

HCV 1.4

 

  1. Gazette the salt like area if present.

  2. Ensure the signage to be very clear and easily visible.

  3. Take the coordinate and the picture of the current(based on the HCV Assessment) or newly found salt licks.

  4. Cooperate with the Sabah Wildlife Department to monitor the wildlife by using the camera trapping.

 

HCV 2

 

  1. Conducting patrolling on the border of each protected areas present in each compartment regularly especially before, during and after harvesting operation to ensure no encroachment at the area.

  2. Regular monitoring of each boundary poles and signage of each protected areas.

  3. Encourage workers and staff to report each sighting of the endemic species of flora and fauna by giving rewards or incentive.

  4. Regular update reports on each sighting of flora and fauna.

  5. Preparing the HCV toolkit handbook to staff for more understanding about the HCV.

 

HCV 3

 

  1. Ensure that each protected area was maintained. No debris located in the riverside. Signage and boundary poles can be seen clearly.

  2. Implementation of directional felling to ensure that the trees felled doesn’t damage the protected area.

  3. Record any incidents of encroachment.

  4. Conduct pre and post-harvest monitoring.

 

 

HCV 4.1

 

  1. Ensuring all wildlife corridor to be completely exclude during harvest operation.

  2. Making sure that each boundary poles, signage and any demarcation to be maintain regularly.

  3. Conduct training to staff and all workers to ensure that they were aware with the importance of preserving the wildlife corridor which act as a water catchment area.

 

HCV 4.2

 

  1. Continuous monitoring and patrolling towards the riparian buffer of Sg. Malibo, and Sg. Kuamut.

  2. Maintenance of each demarcation including signage and boundary poles.

  3. Continuous patrolling on the condition of each steep area and also the condition of the demarcation of the steep area.

 

HCV 4.3

 

  1. Create or update if necessary, the SOP for forest fire prevention.

  2. Create Safety Committee to handle any occurrence of forest fire.

  3. Create Emergency Respond team which responsible on the prevention of the forest fire occurrence.

  4. Conduct fire prevention training and briefing to create awareness towards the prevention of the forest fire occurrence.

  5. Conduct fire drill to culturize the action needed to be done if there were any occurrence of forest fire.

  6. Ensure the forest fire equipment is sufficient and works properly.
